Tesla Model Y vs BYD Seal vs Polestar 2 (UK)
Sourced UK comparison: full Seal feature research; Polestar official specs + 3-year depreciation only.
This page compares the current UK Juniper Model Y with the MY26 BYD Seal saloon (from our full feature research file) and with Polestar 2 using only our 3-year depreciation scrape plus official Polestar UK specifications fetched for this build. No invented Polestar feature matrix.
Caveats (read first)
- FSD / city Autosteer / Autopark / Summon are not treated as guaranteed UK-on features. Tesla lists Assisted Driving extras with hardware/software/approval dependencies; October 2026 reporting said the advanced supervised package was not approved for UK use.
- Digital key is not Tesla-only — Seal and Polestar (Plus pack digital key) also offer phone-based access.
- In-car Grok needs AMD infotainment, software 2025.26+, and Premium Connectivity or Wi-Fi; older Intel-Atom cars are outside official support; Grok Bot / SuperGrok is optional, not standard.
- HEPA / rear screen / panoramic roof on Model Y are Premium/Performance (or omitted on decontented Long Range RWD).
- Seal is a saloon; Model Y is a crossover — cargo and seating differ by design. We do not invent Seal resale figures.

Model Y vs BYD Seal (MY26 saloon)
Seal UK announcement (19 Feb 2026, BYD UK Media): Design £45,730 / Excellence £48,730; WLTP 354 / 323 miles; 0–62 5.9 s / 3.8 s; Blade LFP 82.5 kWh; DC peak 150 kW; boot 485 L + frunk 72 L.
Selected Tesla advantages (from full research file)
- Sentry Mode — When the Model Y is locked and in Park, its cameras stay powered and watch for suspicious activity; a detected threat can pulse the headlights, sound the alarm, show a “cameras may be recording” message, alert the Tesla app, and save event footage.
- Built-in Dashcam — The Model Y can record video of its surroundings while driving, using the car’s own external cameras, with Auto (safety-critical events), On Honk, and Manual save modes; clips are stored locally on a formatted USB drive and/or onboard memory and are not sent to Tesla.
- PIN to Drive — A four-digit PIN can be required before the Model Y will drive, which limits use if the key or phone is taken.
- Named standard Autopilot package (Traffic-Aware Cruise Control + Autosteer) — Every new Tesla includes this driver-assistance pair: it matches speed to traffic and helps keep the car in a clearly marked lane, with the driver still fully responsible.
- Higher peak DC charging (up to 250 kW Supercharging) — Tesla’s UK Model Y materials quote Supercharging up to 250 kW and about 160–166 miles added in 15 minutes on Long Range/Premium figures (actual rate varies with battery temperature, state of charge and stall).
- Much larger official cargo volume — Tesla quotes up to 2,118–2,138 litres of total storage on the UK Model Y page (DrivingElectric notes this is the folded-seats-plus-frunk total; seats-up boot is a separate, smaller figure, previously around 854–890 litres measured to the roof). — The MY26 Seal saloon is officially 485 litres in the rear boot plus a...
- Theater, Arcade and Toybox — While parked, the Model Y owner’s manual documents streaming video apps (Theater, over Wi-Fi or Premium Connectivity), games (Arcade, including steering-wheel or controller play) and parked-only Toybox features.
- Integrated Grok in the car (UK / Europe, with hardware & connectivity limits) — As of late 2026 Tesla’s Grok support materials and European rollout reporting describe in-car Grok for vehicles with an AMD infotainment processor, software 2025.26+, and Premium Connectivity or Wi-Fi. UK availability was part of the early European country set and later Europe-wide expansion; update 2026.38.x remove...
- Direct online buying with no franchised dealer — In the UK you configure and order a Model Y on tesla.com (Design Studio or inventory), pay a non-refundable order fee, and manage the order in the Tesla account/app without negotiating through a franchised car dealer.

Seal advantages / matches (honest)
- Apple CarPlay & Android Auto — Standard on Seal; Tesla does not offer them (research file Comparable).
- Head-up display — Seal Excellence; not a Model Y feature.
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) — Seal officially up to 3,000 W with dedicated cable; not claimed for UK Model Y here.
- Longer vehicle warranty (announced) — BYD MY26 UK: 6 years / 93,750 miles vehicle vs Tesla UK page 4 years / 60,000 miles (battery both 8 years, different mile caps).
- Heat pump / panoramic roof as standard — Seal: heat pump and panoramic roof standard; Tesla panoramic / HEPA / rear screen are Premium-dependent; decontented Long Range RWD omits several.
- Body style practicality trade-off — Seal is a D-segment saloon (485 L boot + 72 L frunk); Model Y is a crossover with far larger folded cargo — different jobs.

No Seal resale row is published here (no matching scrape). Feature deep-dive for Polestar was intentionally not invented.
