Home charger payback

How many months until a wallbox pays for itself versus charging those home miles on public rapid chargers? Uses the same energy defaults as the running-cost calculator.

Energy-only payback. Ignores standing charges, charging losses, convenience, and any grant or tariff signup bonus. Wallbox cost is your figure — the £999 chip is a labelled UK example (Ohme Home Pro / Pod Point Solo 3S “from £999 with standard installation” as reported by UK charger guides in Oct 2026), not a quote for your driveway.

Wallbox

Example £999: Ohme Home Pro and Pod Point Solo 3S “from £999 with standard installation” (UK charger round-ups citing manufacturer pages, checked Oct 2026). Extra cable runs or consumer-unit work cost more — enter your quote.

Miles & mix

Payback compares: those home-share miles at the home rate vs the same miles at the public rate. Miles you already charge publicly do not help the wallbox pay back.

Maths: pence/mi = p/kWh ÷ mi/kWh. Monthly saving (£) = (public p/mi − home p/mi) ÷ 100 × (miles × home%). Months = wallbox £ ÷ monthly saving.
