Running-cost calculator

What does a mile actually cost? Compare an EV charged at home or on public rapid chargers with petrol, diesel and a hybrid, using today's UK prices or your own.

Defaults as of 4 November 2026. Energy and fuel prices change every week. The defaults are UK averages; your tariff, local forecourt and driving style will differ.

Maths: fuel cost per mile = price per litre × 4.546 ÷ mpg (UK gallon = 4.546 litres). EV cost per mile = price per kWh ÷ miles per kWh. Charging losses, standing charges and off-peak EV tariffs are not included; with a smart EV tariff, home charging can cost much less, so try your own rate.
